International Symposium on Turbulent Particle-Laden Flow and Coal Combustion
颗粒湍流和煤燃烧国际研讨会
June 2 to June 5, 2013
Huazhong University of Science & Technology
Wuhan, P.R. China
Motivation
Turbulent particle-laden flows are frequently found in nature and in industrial applications., The complex coupling effects at various scales, associated with fluid-fluid, fluid-particle and particle-particle interactions in these flows, are not well understood. The study of turbulent multiphase flows currently represents a research front in a variety of scientific fields such as energy, environment, and chemical engineering, with a large number of open questions related to effective modeling and accurate prediction of these complex flows. While multiphase flows have received much interest for a long time, and the study of its fundamental mechanisms and their applications is still an advanced research topic in both academic and engineering communities.
Coal combustion is an important engineering application of turbulent particle-laden flow. During the combustion process, the motion and dynamic evolution of particulate matters, including coal particles, fly ashes, and produced fine particles, are central to the efficiency, safety, and pollution control of the energy-conversion plant. Therefore, the understanding of fundamental physical transport mechanisms is one basic topic in coal combustion science and is vital for developing efficient technologies.
Under the support of “Programme of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities” (111 Program) from Chinese government and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), this “International Symposium on Turbulent Particle-Laden Flow and Coal Combustion” will bring together world-renowned scholars and Chinese researchers to exchange ideas and discuss advanced computational methods, measurement techniques, and theoretical approaches for turbulent particle-laden flows, providing a platform for dialogue between researchers from diverse disciplines. The Symposium will be held at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China, from June 2 to June 5, 2013.
